Lyra Lee Photography | FAQ's

How do I know if you are the right photographer for me?

First, take a look at my portfolio. If you like what you see and want images like this for you or your family, I may be the one for you. If you are looking for pictures of your baby in a basket and perfectly posed, I'm probably not your girl. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I just don't do it, because it doesn't fit my passion and style. If you want everyone in your family looking directly at my camera for every image you receive, I am not your girl. I want to capture your family interacting and connecting in a genuine way. I want to follow your child around as we explore, watching for the awe of something newly discovered on his face.

If you have a Pinterest board collection of all of the images you are dead set on having during your session, I am not the girl for you. I am all for seeing what draws you into an image, but I have to have the freedom to create your own, unique images, rather than being confined to a Pinterest board. If you are a senior, we will meet for a pre-session consult and I am happy to look at your Pinterest board to see what you like at that time. Just know that I cannot be confined to that, and I will need the freedom to capture your beautiful and unique self as we shoot. If you like what you see in my portfolio, I can assure you that I can create beautiful images for you, also. I will just need you to trust me and let me lead the way on our adventure together.

Do you use props?

No, I do not. I discovered a few years ago that props hinder me during a shoot. Once I did away with using props, I was freed up to see and capture the emotion, joy, connection, and wonder I see in my clients during a session. Those are my props. Just you and all that is happening in front of my camera. Not using props frees us up to wander and find lots of new and interesting discoveries. There have been a few times I've used props in the form of musical instruments for senior shoots. That works beautifully. So, I should correct myself and say that I very rarely use props, and if I do, it's usually during a senior shoot.

Do you offer any other kind of sessions other than newborn, family, and senior?

Yes. I offer maternity, Fresh 48, baby milestone sessions, and head shots. Discounts are offered on maternity, Fresh 48, and milestones when booked in conjunction with a newborn shoot. Please contact me for details.

Do you do weddings?

Yes, but at a limited number per year. Contact me for pricing info and availability.

Do you pose us at all or give us direction?

I definitely lead the entire time, giving direction as we go.  I loosely pose for the full family shots, meaning, I'll put a family in a certain area, but then I find things for the family to do to keep the kids happy, while all together. It's an intuitive game of me watching carefully for those moments of joy and connection. For the individual child or sibling shots, I rarely pose, but, rather follow them around to grab shots of them just being themselves. I've found that a child freely exploring brings all sorts of joy. A child contained brings all sorts of unhappiness.

Do you have a studio?

No. All of my sessions take place either outdoors or in the client's home. Winter months mean that most sessions take place in the home, although I do love a good snow session.

Are you a lifestyle or documentary photographer and what's the difference?

I am a mixture of both, but lean more toward lifestyle for my client work. Lifestyle means that I loosely pose my families and give general directions during much of the shoot to pull out genuine connection and emotion. I move closer to documentary photography when I'm just letting a kid go on his own and following him around. I'm giving no direction at those times and letting things unfold completely on their own. Lifestyle involves some direction and documentary involves no direction. I'm a little of both.

What should we wear for our session?

I will direct you to my Pinterest board for ideas when we have our pre-shoot consultation.

How long does it take to receive my gallery of images?

You will receive your gallery within 2 weeks of the session. I will email you the link to the gallery, where you will be able to download full resolution images immediately.

Do you edit in both color and black and white?

Yes. I use my discretion to decide whether images should be edited in color or black and white. You will receive a mixture of both, depending on what I see to be best for each image.

Do you offer any products other than the digital images?

Yes. Books, albums, canvases, cards, etc. You will have access to products via the gallery, and I will send you a product list with your gallery link.

Can I pay online?

Yes. I will send you an invoice as soon as you book. The first payment will be your deposit of $200. This will hold your spot on my calendar. The remainder of your balance will be due 3 days prior to your scheduled session.

Are you available for travel?

Yes. I love to travel. ;)
